Dear Families,
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself! My name is Vanessa Sposato (Mrs.S) and I am in my Tenth year at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Catholic Academy as the K-8th School Counselor. My First Five years, I was working here at SNT and also St. Joan of Arc school with an agency provided by the diocese. This year is going to be my Fifth year as a member of the SNT staff and most importantly part of the SNT family. I can't be happier to continue to do great work with the school community .Over the last Ten years I started to build some great relationships and I am so happy to devote more time doing so.
My passion for school counseling began during my time as a student at St.Johns University where I received my Bachelors of Science degree in Human Services and then continuing to earn my Masters of Science in Education and permanent certificate in School Counseling. I have Eleven years combined school counseling experience at the Elementary and middle school level. What I love most about the elementary-middle school level is the genuine curiosity students have in their learning and the world around them, as well as the opportunity for early intervention support that can have a lifetime positive impact on a child.
As a School Counselor, my primary responsibility is to promote the academic, career, and social/emotional development of all students. I look forward to offering support to students, staff, families, and community. I will be meeting with students individually and in small groups (when possible), conducting classroom counseling lessons in all grade levels focusing on social and emotional development, current topics and needs of students( when possible). If students and families need additional assistance, referrals to outside community services and programs will be provided.
You may have noticed above that I put in bold and underlined the word, “all” students. Sometimes when the term “counselor” is heard, some may perceive that a counselor may only work with a select few students in a 1:1 counseling capacity, but that is not the case! School Counseling programs reach and meet the needs of all students in a school through many various ways, including those listed above. I am here to advocate for all students.
I am so excited to work with your children and get to know you throughout the school year!
All the best,
Mrs.Sposato
School Counselor
